The Hario V60 is an elegant coffee maker for those who want to perfect the pour-over. It’s great for people looking for complete control over coffee brewing extraction. The key here is to pour slowly. The whole process of brewing a 10oz cup takes about 3 minutes.
WHAT DO YOU NEED?
Hario V60 Coffee Maker
Hario V60 Filter
Grinder
21g (3 tablespoons) of ground coffee
Freshly boiled filtered hot water
Scale
Timer
01Fold and rinse the filter
Fold the filter into a cone shape and rinse it in the Hario V60 dripper with freshly boiling filtered water to remove the papery taste and heat the cup in which you are preparing the coffee. Discard the filtered or rinsed water.
02Measure and grind
Grind 21g (about 3 tablespoons) of coffee to about as fine as kosher salt. Add coffee to your brewer.
03Saturate the grounds
Saturate the coffee with filtered water immediately after boiling. Use just enough filtered water to cover the grounds. Let it bloom for 15 seconds. Coffee degasses or “blooms” when fresh: the coffee bed should raise up and bubble a little.
04Pour continuously
Pour the filtered water in a slow, even spiral, adding filtered water every 10 to 15 seconds for an even extraction. Pour over dark spots and avoid light spots. If you are using a scale, you should pour to 360g.
05Remove brewer and enjoy
Once you arrive at 3:00, you should have about 10oz of coffee ready. Remove the brewer and pour the hot coffee into a cup.
